Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Primary Care Patient Care Advanced Medical Assistant to collaborate with Primary Care Providers in delivering safe, timely, and patient-centered care. This role emphasizes thorough rooming, medication reconciliation, care-gap closure, and accurate documentation within a fast-paced outpatient setting.

The position requires completion of MA competencies, MA Academy training, and BLS certification, with a focus on empowering patients and improving quality outcomes across Mercy

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must attend MA Clinic Academy training.
  • Must have completed all MA Competencies
  • Certification: BLS (Basic Life Support) for Hospital Outpatient Depts
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • One year of applicable patient care experience or medical office experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist Mercy Primary Care Providers in patient care.
  • Perform advanced rooming, vitals, and medication reconciliation.
  • Support clinic operations and patient education to drive quality outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the EHR system.
  • Adhere to Mercy Service Standards and patient-centered care principles.

Under the direction of the primary care operations team, the Primary Care Patient Care Advanced MA works directly with Mercy Primary Care Providers to provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care in a systematic way. The Primary Care Patient Care Advanced MA will partner with patients, providers, and other members of the clinical care team to drive quality outcomes for all patients. Duties and responsibilities will be performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details:
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • New hire must attend MA Clinic Academy training.
  • Must have completed all MA Competencies
Additional minimum requirement(s) only for Hospital Outpatient Departments:

Certification(s): BLS (Basic Life Support)

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program

Experience: One year of applicable patient care experience or applicable medical office experience as defined by the clinic

Additional preferred requirement(s) for non-HOD Clinics:

Certification(s): BLS (Basic Life Support)

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • Complete Advanced Standard Rooming with overall achievement >= 90% for the last 6 months including:
    • AWV questionnaire and documentation.
    • Thorough Medication Reconciliation.
    • Closing all open care gaps as indicated Encounter Guide (Fall Risk, Depression, Breast Cancer Screening, Colorectal Cancer Screening, and Diabetes Eye Exam).
    • Blood Pressure Recheck for patients with elevated initial blood pressure reading.
    • Completion of Patient Experience Conversation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and clinical documentation.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of common outpatient procedures and equipment.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and professional growth.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of varying differences and behaviors among populations served.
Work Environment:
  • Outpatient clinical setting with frequent patient interaction.
  • Requires standing, walking, lifting, and use of clinical equipment.
  • Potential exposure to infectious materials; PPE provided.
Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
