Brown University Health in Taunton, MA, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians in delivering high-quality patient care and exceptional service. The role requires performing clinical procedures, patient education, and coordination of referrals within a compliant ambulatory setting.

You will work under established guidelines, maintain vaccine storage, and ensure patient privacy while upholding our values of compassion and accountability. Day shift, minors trips may be involved.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalency with ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or minimum of 3 years Medical Assistant experience in ambulatory setting within last 5 years.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to use a PC and scanner; EMR and scheduling software.
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients, providers, supervisors and peers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with direct patient care procedures and related tasks as described (lab tracking, data entry, chart prep, pre-visit planning).
  • Perform routine procedures (EKGs, rapid strep, urine dips, spirometry, nebulizer treatments).
  • Administer injections including vaccines and medications.
  • Educate patients on medical issues within established parameters.
  • Schedule and track referrals and pre-authorizations.
  • Maintain vaccine refrigeration per regulations; ensure privacy per HIPAA.

Responsibilities

Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks such as: lab tracking and data entry, document management, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, verifying medication lists, preparing charts and pre-visit planning Performs routine specialized procedures, such as EKGs, rapid strep, urine dips, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, etc. Administers injections including vaccines and medications Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters Schedules, coordinates, and tracks STAT patient referrals and pre-authorizations Work quality reports to ensure gaps of care are closed and maintain consistent quality scores Maintains stock levels for medicines and medical supplies as needed Monitors and audits vaccine refrigeration temperature in line with Department of Health Regulations Practices safety, environmental and/or infection control methods Complies with OSHA and DOH standards Complies with federal and local confidentiality laws, including HIPAA, ensuring patient privacy Adheres to Brown Health Medical Group Primary Care guidelines for protecting patients’ demographic, clinical and financial information Provides superior customer service and outstanding patient care Attend meetings/workshops as they relate to current position and office workflows Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Basic Knowledge: High School graduate or equivalency – able to read, write and speak English. Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or minimum of 3 years Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory setting required, within the last 5 years. Basic Life Support Certification Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols. Ability to use a personal computer and scanner. Ability to use EMR and other software applications. Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors and peers in a professional manner. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Experience

Three years of experience within the last 5 years as Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting or recent Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) within the past 2 or 3 years. Prefer experience with electronic medical record and appointment scheduling software.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing. Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds

Pay Range

$18.13-$29.90
