Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas Urgent Care seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical care in urgent care, occupational health, and workers’ compensation settings. You will perform initial evaluations, record histories, take vital signs, and prepare patients for provider assessment while recognizing acuity levels for appropriate intervention.

Full-time includes rotating 12-hour shifts with weekend work; PRN options are available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS Certification.
• Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• Experience performing X-Rays desirable.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and explain next steps and wait times.
• Address patient concerns and escalate emergencies when needed.
• Ensure timely follow-up for lab and x-ray results.
• Assist front desk with check-in and check-out procedures.
• Document vital signs, histories, medications, allergies, and other details.
• Assist with transfers, procedures, and lab work under supervision.
• Prepare and shoot X-Rays with proper positioning and safety.
• Maintain clean exam rooms and stock supplies; follow infection control.
• Adhere to confidentiality standards.
• Perform phlebotomy and injections as trained.

Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant provides clinical care to patients in urgent care, occupational health, and workers’ compensation settings. Responsibilities include initial evaluations, x-ray testing, and preparing patients for provider evaluation by recording histories, vital signs, and documentation while recognizing acuity levels for appropriate intervention.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet patients promptly and provide clear communication about next steps and wait times
• Offer solutions to patient concerns and seek help in emergent or hazardous situations
• Ensure timely follow-up for lab and x-ray results; execute follow-up calls with urgency
• Support front desk staff with check-in and check-out procedures when needed
• Accurately document vital signs, histories, medications, allergies, and other pertinent details
• Assist with patient transfers, procedures, and lab work under provider supervision
• Prepare and shoot X-Rays, ensuring proper positioning, safety, radiation protection, and shielding
• Complete all required visit documentation and maintain stocked, clean exam rooms
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and patient confidentiality standards
• Perform phlebotomy, injections, and other clinical procedures as trained and directed

WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE?

Full-time team members work a rotating 36-40 hour/week schedule, consisting of 12-hour weekday shifts and every-other weekend. Our PRN (per diem) team members are scheduled on an as-needed basis.

WHAT'S REQUIRED?

• High school diploma or equivalent
• BLS Certification
• Certified Medical Assistant is preferred
• Experience performing X-Rays is desirable
