Job summary

Contentnea Health in eastern North Carolina is seeking a medical assistant to support physicians and advanced practice providers in patient care. You will help with pre-visit planning, vital signs, exams, lab specimen processing, immunizations, and patient education.

You will document data in EHR and NCIR and assist front desk tasks as needed. The ideal candidate has a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting and a current BLS certification, with strong communication and computer

Qualifications

• Possesses work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills.
• Possesses specific knowledge of medical assisting processes and practices, typically acquired during completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting with a duration of up to a year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and advanced practice practitioners with patient care.

• Provides temporary support for front desk operations including check-in/out and appointment scheduling.
• Maintains OSHA sanitation standards and proper disposal of medical waste, and inventories supplies and equipment.

Job Summary

Assists physicians and advanced practice practitioners with patient care and maintains clinical areas.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Assists medical practitioners with patient care.
   1. Performs pre-visit planning.
   2. Obtains vital signs.
   3. Performs standing orders.
   4. Reviews medical histories with patients.
   5. Prepares patients for examinations and assists practitioner with examinations and procedures.
   6. Collects and processes lab specimens.
   7. Administers medications and immunizations.
   8. Performs vision and hearing tests, ear irrigation, electrocardiograms, spirometry, wound care, splinting, nebulized therapies, and other clinical orders.
   9. Ensures collected data is communicated to practitioner and properly documented in electronic health record (EHR) and other designated databases, such as NCIR.
   10. Relays instructions and education to patients.
   11. Transmits medication orders/refills to pharmacies.
   12. Completes practitioner-related administrative documentation, including but not limited to durable medical equipment (DME) paperwork and other patient-care related forms, in accordance with organizational policies and payer requirements.
   13. Provides temporary support for front desk operations when assigned, which may include patient check‑in and check‑out, appointment scheduling, telephone support, and patient insurance verification.

1. Maintains clinical areas.
   1. Enacts OSHA medical office standards for sanitation of intake areas, exam rooms, and laboratory, before, during, and after each patient.
   2. Properly disposes of medical waste, including sharps.
   3. Participates in inventory, stocking, and organization of medical supplies, medications, and/or immunizations, in exam rooms, laboratory, and storage areas, including crash carts, refrigerators, and freezers.
   4. Participates in regular maintenance of medical equipment such as laboratory machines, electrocardiogram machines, nebulizers, glucometers, and defibrillators.

Qualifications and Skills

Possesses work‑related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para‑professional, or certificate type program.

Possesses specific knowledge of medical assisting processes and practices, typically acquired during completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting with a duration of up to a year.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
