Job summary

Paycom - ATS is seeking a Medical Assistant for our TPP San Antonio clinic in San Antonio, TX. The role supports Physicians and nursing staff, documents patient encounters in EMR, and performs routine patient-care tasks in a fast-paced medical setting.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, at least six months of Medical Assistant experience, and familiarity with EMR systems. CPR/BLS certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum six months related Medical Assistant experience.
• BLS certification preferred.
• Current CMA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers phones and greets patients.
• Performs general nursing care to patients per standards.
• Interviews patients, measures vital signs, records information.
• May draw blood or collect urine samples and prep specimens.
• Prepares exam rooms and maintains cleaning list.
• Fills out procedure consents and schedules tests.
• Communicates test results and care plans by phone or mail.
• Documents patient care plans, tests, and results in EMR.
• Prepares patients for procedures and assists with positioning.
• Escalates non-routine issues to Office Manager/Physician.
• Maintains attendance and performs other duties as assigned.
• Travels may be required.

Job Details: Job Location: TPP San Antonio - San Antonio, TX 78258, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School, Salary Range: $17.00 - $20.00 Hourly, Job Shift: Day, Job Category: Health Care.

The Medical Assistant assists the Physician and nursing staff with documenting the patient encounter into the EMR. They also function to perform various patient care tasks, and exhibit teamwork characteristics with Physicians and other staff. The Medical Assistant is responsible for completing clinic and administrative tasks.

Essential Functions

• Answers phones
• Performs general nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures
• Greets patients and takes them back to rooms
• Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patient charts
• May be required to draw and collect blood or urine samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
• Prepares examination rooms and maintains daily cleaning list
• Filling out procedure consents
• Schedules patients for diagnostic testing and follows up to ensure completion of testing
• Communicates with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the Physician
• Formulates and documents patient care plans, charts, tests, and examination results in the medical record
• Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains process, and positions patients to capture images requested by the Physician
• Escalates non-routine issues to the Office Manager or Physician
• Good attendance is expected of all employees as a normal condition of work
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Office Manager or Physician

Qualifications: Competencies

• Ability to perform EKG's, draw blood, and administer injections
• Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients
• Excellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease. Appears friendly, reassuring, approachable, and caring to patients
• Demonstrates sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations
• Strong computer skills using a medical management software and prior experience with EMR's is highly preferred
• Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrates initiative, insight, and judgement in decision-making process
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation, and procedures

This job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional medical clinic and office environment. This role routinely works around medical devices and patient room equipment in addition to standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

Educational and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum six months related Medical Assistant experience
• BLS certification preferred

Compensation

$17 - $20/hour, depending on experience
