Job summary

Virginia Heart is seeking experienced Medical Assistants to provide clinical and administrative support in our outpatient cardiology offices in Reston, VA. You will perform vitals, EMR data entry, patient education, and care coordination with a compassionate, patient-centered approach.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a medical office with both administrative and clinical experience required.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports clinical and office staff with clinical/administrative tasks such as phone screening, appointment confirmations, orders management, data entry into the EMR.
  • Create/update patient demographics and clinical information in the EMR.
  • Take patients from waiting room, perform vitals, prepare for provider visits, and update medical history in intake.
  • Assist providers with chart preparation and paperwork needed for treatment decisions.
  • Provide patient education and assist patients with clinical questions.
  • Notify patients of test results per protocol.
  • Provide professional telephone services and transfer calls as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Serve as a resuscitative team member within training scope.
  • Know the location of supplies/medication on emergency cart and operate emergency equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports the clinical and office staff by performing clinical administrative tasks such as phone screening, appointment confirmation calls, orders management, data entry into the EMR, etc.
  • Create and/or update patient demographic and clinical information in the EMR as needed.
  • Responsible for taking patients from waiting room, performing vitals and preparing them for provider visits into EMR as well as updating medical history as part of intake process.
  • Assists the provider’s and/or clinicians with patients in the office and is to include but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Clinical Chart Preparation
  • Gather appropriate documents and signatures necessary to assist the clinician in making treatment decision.
  • Provides patient education and assists patients with clinical questions as needed and appropriate.
  • Notifies patients of test results per protocol as needed.
  • Provides professional and efficient telephone services to patients and Virginia Heart staff and transfers/handles calls as appropriate.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Works as a resuscitative team member in emergency situations within their level of expertise and training.
  • The medical assistant is responsible for knowing the location of the medical supplies and medication on the emergency cart and the proper operation of emergency equipment within their scope.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Medical Assistant Certification Preferred
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Previous experience working in a medical office with both administrative and clinical experience required
  • Computer Literate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience with the use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
