Job summary

MercyOne in Pleasant Hill, IA seeks a full-time Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) for the day shift. The role requires CMA/RMA certification, BLS, and completion of mandatory abuse reporting training within three months. Clinic or physician office experience is preferred.

You will support clinicians by performing routine patient care, preparing rooms, documenting encounters, and assisting with procedures while maintaining aseptic technique and clear communication with patients and families.

Qualifications

  • CMA or RMA certification must be obtained within first year of employment.
  • Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
  • BLS certification obtained within three months of hire.
  • Mandatory Reporter abuse training completed within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes and assesses emergency needs of patients and initiates appropriate procedures.
  • Facilitates communication among health care team and analyzes patient data.
  • Explains treatment plans to patients and families and ensures understanding.
  • Evaluates patient and family understanding of instructions.
  • Assists with procedures and operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintains aseptic technique for preparation and medication administration.
  • Documents all patient interactions accurately and legibly in the chart.

  • Demonstrates ability to recognize and assess emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.
  • Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines.
  • Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Utilizes other members of the health care team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient data. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives accurate and complete information to patient and family.
  • Evaluates patient and family understanding of treatment plan and/or instructions.
  • Assists with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned
  • Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered.
  • Accurately and legibly documents all patient interactions in patient record
  • Reports results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.
  • Functions according to limitations or scope of license or certification.
  • Performs basic nursing functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, etc), under direction and supervision of physician.
  • Maintains professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas.
  • Responsible for following equipment maintenance protocol, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs.
  • Misc. office duties (i.e. copying, filing, retrieval of films/medical records)
  • Assists with nursing chart audits.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.
