Job summary

Foothills Neurology P C in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant to support both clinical and administrative functions in a fast-paced neurology practice.

You will greet patients, take vital signs, room patients, document in the EMR, handle calls and scheduling, manage test orders and specimen collection, assist physicians, and ensure rooms are stocked. Minimum education is high school diploma and MA training; CPR and CMA credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with labs, testing facilities and pharmacies as directed.
  • Support physician during examination and procedures.
  • Stock rooms, order supplies, and maintain clean exam areas.

Job Description:
Administrative Functions

The Medical Assistant performs all duties required for back-office staff including but not limited to:

  • Patient flow: Greeting patients, vital signs, rooming patients, room set up and EMR
  • Back Office: Phone calls, appointment scheduling, message taking, filing, charting, faxing, prescription refills, prior authorizations, correspondence with other health care professionals/facilities, coordinating with testing labs and processing of result letters
  • Document in the EMR
  • Miscellaneous Tasks: Stocking rooms, ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned.
Clinical Duties

In addition to administrative functions, medical assistants have clinical duties that may include:

  • Exam room preparation including inventory and stocking of medical supplies
  • IM and SQ injections as well as educating patients how to do these injections at home
  • Collection/preparation of lab specimens (urine, blood, spinal fluid, blood, tissues)
  • Drawing blood
  • Assisting physician during examination/procedure
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms taking the required vital signs
  • Triage patient calls for pharmacy requests, test results, medical questions, and concerns as directed by the physician
  • Procedures: Injections, drawing blood, urine drug screens, autoclave, centrifuge, setting up for epidural//blood patch, and set up for EMG
  • Communicate documented medical advice, interpretation of test results and orders from a Doctor of Medicine, PA, or NP
  • Obtain, process and communicate medication or procedure prior authorization as documented and ordered by a Doctor of Medicine, PA, or NP
  • Any other duties as assigned by company management to which employee is qualified that will not detract from primary responsibilities.
Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED

MA Training from an accredited program

Military medical training will be considered

Preferred Certifications:
  • 5 years experience
  • Registered Medical Assistant
  • CPR

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
