Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Room patients efficiently and prepare for physician visits.

  • Answer incoming calls and respond to messages promptly.
  • Prepare injections and obtain treatment authorizations as needed.

  • Submit orders as directed by providers and file paperwork.
  • Ensure proper EMR/EHR documentation and fax/upload duties.

Job description

The Medical Assistant supports the Physician in delivering high-quality patient care by managing clinical documentation, coordinating communication between patients and care teams, and ensuring efficient daily clinic operations in accordance with established protocols.

Mandatory not mandatory??
  • Room patients efficiently, ensuring they are prepared for the physician visit and that all necessary documentation and vitals are completed.
  • Assist with examinations and routine procedures, including minor surgery.
  • Complete Meaningful Use and MIPS (Merit-based Incentive Payment System) documentation, ensuring compliance with federal quality reporting standards.
  • Answer incoming patient phone calls and return messages promptly, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Prepare Injections
  • Obtain authorization for treatment requests for HMO, WC, and PPO
  • Obtain patient estimates and communicate insurance coverage information to patients (Rivet)
  • Responsible for obtaining necessary waivers related to treatment and/or supplies.
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with the physician, clinic staff, and billing team to support coordinated patient care and workflow efficiency.
  • Stock and maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, ensuring a safe, organized, and fully equipped environment for patient care.

  • Create/Submit Orders as directed by providers
  • Complete Patient Paperwork, under supervision of provider. This includes, but is not limited to – Disability, School or Work Notes, etc.
  • Respond to requests on behalf of the provider, including follow-ups with physical therapy offices and care coordination.
  • Review, respond to, and accurately upload incoming faxes to patient charts while maintaining an organized and up-to-date fax folder.
  • Prepare the daily clinic schedule and assemble patient clinic packets to ensure smooth and organized clinic operations.
  • Scan and accurately upload all patient documents into clinic folders and/or the EMR/EHR system in accordance with established protocols and workflows, ensuring records are complete and properly organized.
  • Review prior clinic days for missing documentation or notes and follow up with the provider to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow the chain of commands.
  • Prioritize tasks by level of importance to meet deadlines.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate
  • Bachelor of Science and/or certification in Athletic Training preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Experience in an Orthopaedic Practice preferred.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
  • Medical Assistants should have a good working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation
  • Knowledge of compliance regulations set by state, federal and local law.
  • Understanding of EPM/EHR system.
Skills:
  • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making.

Equipment Operated

Standard office equipment including computers, iPad, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving, mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There is a combination of office and clinical settings.

Mental/Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, for approximately 8 hrs. per shift, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb; or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds, with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires working under stressful conditions. Some travel to satellite offices and meetings is required.
