Job summary

Shriners Children's is seeking a Medical Assistant to support outpatient clinic visits for pediatric patients, including phlebotomy and cast applications. You will assist with rooming, vital signs, EMR documentation, and coordination with the RN and providers to ensure smooth workflow.

The role requires BLS within three months, a CMA or CMA-preferred credentials, and at least two years of Medical Assistant experience, including pediatric care.

Qualifications

  • BLS within three months of hire.
  • Two years' experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Two years' pediatric care experience.
  • CMA preferred; AAMA certification preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in rooming patients, taking vital signs and preparing exam rooms.
  • Stocking supplies and assisting physicians and RN staff.
  • Documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Assists in the cast room and phlebotomy tasks as needed.
  • Monitors supplies and equipment and orders new supplies.

Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports the medical and nursing staff in providing care and comfort to infant, toddler, preschool, school-age, adolescent, and young adult patients during outpatient clinic appointments by performing routine clinical and clerical tasks. In addition, the Medical Assistant is responsible for phlebotomy and assisting with the application and removal of casts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in rooming patients, taking vital signs, measurements, preparation of exam rooms, stocking supplies, assisting the physician, interacting with other departments and documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Works with and under the direction of the RN
  • Assists providers, nursing and other health care professionals with procedures and the intake and depart processes. Accurately documents information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Assists in cast room as needed
  • Responsible for prepping clinic to be prepared for that day's clinic to include monitoring supplies and equipment and ordering supplies
  • Utilizes good clinical judgement to identify problems and interventions with patients and families and referral to RN as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within three months
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Two years' experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Two years' pediatric care experience
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

The pay range for this position is $21.97 - $32.95. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
