Job summary

Upperline Health in Evans, GA seeks a Medical Assistant to support physicians in delivering complex health services within the clinic. This role primarily assists with clinical tasks and administrative duties, and may require travel to surrounding area clinics.

Ideal candidates have podiatry or orthopedic exposure, x-ray experience, and familiarity with EMR systems (athenahealth). Strong communication, technical skills, and teamwork are essential for coordinating patient care.

Qualifications

  • Previous medical assistant experience preferred.
  • Podiatry or orthopedic clinic experience preferred.
  • X-ray experience is a plus.
  • Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal.
  • Experience assisting or providing care to geriatric patients preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience working in an EMR; Athenahealth preferred.
  • Must be effective communicator with strong grammar and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Place patients in exam rooms; ensure they are ready and comfortable for the physician.
  • Complete exam intake: medical, social, surgical histories, and history of present illness.
  • Complete vitals and required documentation in EMR (Athenahealth).
  • Provide patient care under guidance of a podiatric physician including taking x-rays and assisting in the exam room.
  • Perform daily administrative tasks: re-stock exam rooms and dispose of exam room trash.
  • Clean and sterilize exam and x-ray rooms after each patient visit and at day end.
  • Equipment sterilization.
  • Conduct health assessments and visits with Upperline Plus patients.
  • Telephonic outreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate preventative care.
  • Care coordination activities: medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling, referrals, etc.
  • Travel to surrounding area clinics to provide support if needed.
  • Other related duties as deemed necessary by Upperline Health.

About the Medical Assistant role

Upperline Health is seeking an energetic, compassionate and driven Medical Assistant to assist our physicians in delivering complex health services within the clinic setting. This person primarily will work in our Evans, GA clinic and will be responsible for supporting the physician with a range of clinical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities will vary, and candidates must be flexible problem solvers and collaborative team players who are eager to learn and tackle problems. Ideal candidates will have podiatry or orthopedic experience and x‑ray experience.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Place patients in exam rooms; ensuring that they are ready and comfortable for their appointment with the physician
  • Complete exam intake, including but not limited to; reviewing medical history, social history, surgical history, and the history of present illness
  • Complete vitals and required documentation in clinic EMR (athenahealth)
  • Provide patient care under the direction of a podiatric physician including taking x‑rays and assisting in the exam room as required
  • Perform daily administrative tasks such as re‑stocking exam rooms and disposing of exam room trash
  • Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing exam and x‑ray rooms both after each patient visit and at the end of each day
  • Equipment sterilization
  • Conduct health assessments and complete visits with Upperline Plus patients
  • Telephonic outreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate ongoing preventative care
  • Care coordination activities including, but not limited to; medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling, managing patient care referrals, etc
  • Travel to surrounding area clinics to provide support if needed
  • Other related duties as deemed necessary by Upperline Health
Medical Assistant Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
  • Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred
  • X‑ray experience is a plus
  • Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal
  • Previous experience assisting or providing care to the geriatric patient population is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Previous experience working in an EMR; preferably athenahealth
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent grammar and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional customer service highly preferred
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Day‑to‑day work includes desk computer work and direct patient interaction, facility staff and physicians
  • Position may have extended periods of standing and to lift more than 5 lbs
  • The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise level
Compensation:

Compensation is commensurate to compensation for similar positions in the region and based on prior training and experience
