Responsibilities

  • Functions as a member of a team committed to quality patient care.
  • Collaborates with care team including physicians, nurses, and office staff.
  • Completes sessions based on nursing and office policy and procedures.
  • Maintains patient records (EHR) up to date at session start.
  • Obtains vital signs and documents findings appropriately.
  • Identifies patients using name and date of birth per policy.
  • Assists with patient quality measures and enhances patient experience.
  • Queries patients for pain/tobacco use and reports to nurse/provider.
  • Reconciles medications and informs physician of discrepancies.
  • Phlebotomy proficiency and proper specimen labeling in presence of patients.
  • Adheres to PPE guidelines and blood borne pathogen procedures.
  • Responds to in-office emergencies and reports safety concerns.
  • Assists with procedures and chaperones during exams as needed.
  • Contacts cancellations and schedules follow-up appointments.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for efficient operation.
  • Participates in orientation of new clinical personnel.
  • Engages in practice performance improvement activities.

Location: Brooklyn, NY 11217
Salary Range: $17.00 - $20.00 Hourly

Position Description

Under the direction of the Provider, Registered Nurse and/or the LPN the Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of patient care in an Ambulatory setting while maintaining professional standards.

Essential Job Functions
  • Functions as a member of a team committed to quality patient care
  • Collaborates with members of the care team including primary care physicians, nurses, office staff, care managers and others to assist in patient care
  • Demonstrates ability to complete sessions based on thorough understanding of nursing and office policy and procedures
  • Maintains appropriate office records (EHR), and ensures that records are up to date at the start of each session
  • Demonstrates proficiency in obtaining vital signs, documents and reports findings as appropriate
  • Correctly identifies patients using 2 identifiers (name and date of birth) per policy and procedure
  • Assists providers and nurses with patient specific quality measures and ensures that the patient’s experience is excellent
  • Queries patients for pain, tobacco use/readiness to quit, all structured fields, documents appropriately and reports to nurse/provider
  • Reconciles patient medications and communicates discrepancies to the physician for final verification
  • Demonstrates proficiency in phlebotomy, labels specimens in the presence of patients', ensures proper handling of all specimens
  • Understands and follows established guidelines pertaining to blood borne pathogens and adheres to office policy regarding personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Demonstrates the ability to respond to in‑office emergencies
  • Reports patient safety issues/concerns to a supervisor or Director of Nursing and documents appropriately
  • Assists with procedures as required and chaperones the provider during exams or procedures as necessary
  • Contacts cancellations (No Shows) and schedules appointments for patient as directed by the provider/nurse
  • Contacts patients to verify appointments as directed by the provider/nurse
  • Maintains supply inventories and equipment necessary for the effective performance of the job
  • Assists in the orientation of new clinical personnel as requested
  • Participates in practice performance improvement activities
  • Verbalizes an understanding of their role in identifying and reporting suspected abuse according to policy and procedures
  • Takes initiative to keep informed of new/revised policy and procedures, standards of care and incorporates these into practice
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications

Graduate of Accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred. Ambulatory Care Setting experience a plus.
