The Role
The Medical Assistant shall serve as a member of the medical team and will work under the direct supervision of the nursing and medical provider staff while assisting and performing a prescribed set of duties in the provision of patient care. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will assume additional responsibilities for all clerical functions in the assigned clinic, as applicable, and when assigned. This work is carried out in support of the mission and philosophy of Samaritan Daytop Health, Inc.
Responsibilities
What You Will Do
- Carry out daily assignments; assisting and taking direction from SDHs health care providers in the delivery of patient care and maintaining patient flow; function as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
- Perform & record vital assessments to include but, not limited to: vital signs, weight, height and promptly reports abnormalities to the medical provider or designated nursing staff on duty.
- Comply with written standards when performing waived testing and quality control procedures. Promptly record and reports results to medical provider or designated nursing staff on duty in accordance with agency procedure.
- Perform venipuncture to obtain blood specimens in accordance with agency procedure; knowledge of and adheres to OSHA standards for blood-borne pathogens when handling blood and body fluids; maintains universal precautions in the provision of patient care.
- Demonstrate compliance to infection control protocols and maintains a safe, clean and therapeutic work environment. Utilizes aseptic technique in the sterilization of instruments utilized for Specialty services as assigned.
- Utilize Health Information Technology to perform essential job functions, which includes but, is not limited to (1) documentation in the EHR, (2) Transmission of ePHI, (3) Retrieval of ePHI (4) Visit summary reports (5) Scanning of PHI
- Maintain and monitor stock inventory in the treatment center and replenishes supplies in exam rooms on a timely basis. Prepares and processes requisitions for routine supplies in accordance with agency procedures.
Qualifications
Who You Will Be
- Someone with a HS diploma or GED
- A graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- BLS certificate.
- BCLS or ACLS/PALS and CPR certification.
- Current experience as a Medical Assistant within an ambulatory care setting.
- Fluency in English, oral and written form.
- Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
