GoHealth Urgent Care in Matthews, NC is seeking a Medical Assistant to support urgent care providers with patient intake, vitals, testing, room preparation, and EMR documentation in a fast-paced setting.

You will register patients, verify insurance, collect co-pays, schedule appointments, perform point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, injections, and maintain exam rooms while delivering a high-quality, customer-focused experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire (AHA or ARC).

Responsibilities

• Register patients, verify insurance, and collect co-pays.
• Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals.
• Respond to patient inquiries and provide care status updates.
• Record medical history and obtain vital signs.
• Perform point-of-care testing (flu, strep, ECG).
• Phlebotomy and injections administration.
• Update EMR and scan documents.

Medical Assistant

Pay Range: $19.00 - $24.25 per hour

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant supports urgent care providers with clinical and administrative tasks, including patient intake, vitals, testing, procedures, room preparation, and EMR documentation. This role delivers a high‑quality, customer‑focused experience in a fast‑paced care setting.

Essential Functions

• Register patients, verify insurance, and collect co-pays
• Schedule appointments and coordinate specialist referrals
• Respond to patient inquiries and provide care status updates
• Communicate patient flow and assist with patient preparation
• Record medical history and obtain vital signs
• Perform point‑of‑care testing (flu, strep, ECG)
• Perform phlebotomy and administer injections
• Prepare, clean, and restock exam rooms
• Update EMR and scan documents
• Answer phones and manage administrative tasks
• Conduct patient follow‑up and maintain reception area
• Complete opening and closing procedures, including cash‑out
• Conduct daily equipment checks and submit repair tickets
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in Medical Assistant duties

Strong typing and computer skills

Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel

Requirements

• High School Diploma required
• Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire (AHA or ARC)

Certification Requirements (for candidates with less than 3 years of MA experience)

One of the following certifications is required:

• CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
• CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP)
• RMA - Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH, or ARMA)
• NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
• NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)

Certification Alternatives

Experience‑Based Pathway (no MA certification at hire)

Candidates may qualify with:

• A minimum of 3 years of Medical Assistant experience , AND
• At least 1 of those years must be in a Hospital, Emergency Room, or Urgent Care setting

Note: Individuals hired without an approved MA certification must obtain one within 6 months of their start date to remain eligible for continued employment.

Alternative Credentials Accepted at Time of Hire

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program, LPN, or RN
• EMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians)
• Paramedic (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians)
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
