Medical Assistant Role

Upperline Health is seeking an energetic, compassionate and driven Medical Assistant to assist our physicians in delivering complex health services within the clinic setting. This person will primarily work in our Jasper, IN clinic and will be responsible for supporting the physician with a range of clinical and administrative tasks. The role requires flexibility, problem‑solving and teamwork. Ideal candidates will have podiatry or orthopedic experience and x‑ray experience.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Place patients in exam rooms, ensuring they are ready and comfortable
  • Complete exam intake, including medical history, social history, surgical history and history of present illness
  • Enter vitals and required documentation in the clinic EMR (athenahealth)
  • Provide patient care under the direction of a podiatric physician, including taking x-rays and assisting in the exam room as required
  • Perform daily administrative tasks such as re‑stocking exam rooms and disposing of exam room trash
  • Clean and sterilize exam and x‑ray rooms after each patient visit and at the end of each day
  • Conduct health assessments and complete visits with Upperline Plus patients
  • Telephonic outreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate ongoing preventative care
  • Care coordination activities such as medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling, managing patient care referrals, etc.
  • Travel to surrounding area clinics to provide support if needed
  • Other related duties as deemed necessary by Upperline Health
Medical Assistant Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
  • Podiatry or Orthopedic clinic experience preferred
  • X‑ray experience is a plus
  • Clinical care coordination or care management experience is ideal
  • Previous experience assisting or providing care to geriatric patients preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience working in an EMR, preferably athenahealth
  • Effective communicator with excellent grammar and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills highly preferred
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Desk computer work and direct patient interaction are daily activities
  • Position may involve extended periods of standing and lifting more than 5 lbs
  • The work environment is a health care facility with air‑temperature control and moderate noise level
Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with other positions in the region and based on prior training and experience.
