Job summary

CVS Health Corporation’s Oak Street Health unit is seeking a Medical Assistant to support care teams delivering high-touch primary care. You will room patients, take vital signs, assist with procedures, and help coordinate testing and vaccinations under RN direction.

Qualifications

  • CPR Certification required.
  • If < 1 year MA experience, certification required prior to hire.
  • Certification preferred for >1 year MA experience.
  • EMR experience and proficiency required.
  • 2+ years experience with geriatric patients preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by the communities served.
  • US work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients in a timely manner and assist the provider to stay on schedule.
  • Deliver an exceptional patient experience and help patients prepare for visits.
  • Obtain vital signs, chief complaints and review medications.
  • Deliver patient screenings per protocols.
  • Order supplies and stock exam rooms.
  • Conduct routine quality control checks including infection control and QA.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, safe, and ready for visits.
  • Provide telephonic support to patients under RN direction.
  • Assist with visits including vaccinations, ABI, spirometry, EKGs per local laws.
  • Perform waived laboratory testing.
  • Schedule diagnostic testing.
  • Apply or assist with durable medical equipment.
  • Participate in care team meetings; other duties as assigned.

Role Description:

Oak Street Health takes a team-based approach to providing outstanding patient care. Care teams are responsible for delivering excellent, high-touch, primary care, and coordinating the care of our patients throughout the healthcare delivery system.

Medical Assistants are an important part of our Care Teams. High levels of flexibility, commitment, attention to detail, and problem-solving are required to be successful. You will be expected to build relationships with Oak Street Health members. Medical Assistants will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room Oak Street Health patients. Medical Assistants will be expected to assist in assessing patients’ health conditions, including performing routine diagnostic testing during appointments.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Ensures efficient patient flow by rooming patients in a timely manner and assisting the provider with staying timely on their schedule

  • Delivers an exceptional patient experience, and helps patients prepare for their provider visit

  • Obtains vital signs, chief complaints and reviews medications

  • Delivers patient screenings per protocols

  • Orders supplies and stocks exam rooms

  • Conducts routine quality control checks, including infection control measures, equipment QAs, and checks for expired medication and supplies

  • Ensures exam rooms are clean, safe, and ready for patient visits

  • Under direction of an RN, Provider and/or protocol, provides telephonic support to patients

  • Under direction of an RN or Provider, offer MA appropriate "visits", including but not limited to: administering vaccinations, performing procedures, ABI, spirometry, EKGs, etc. (depending on local laws and regulations)

  • Performs waived laboratory testing

  • Schedules diagnostic testing

  • Applies or assists with the application of durable medical equipment

  • Participates in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations

  • Other duties, as assigned

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for motivated Registered or Certified Medical Assistants with:

  • No Medical Assistant experience required

  • CPR Certification required

  • If < 1 year Medical Assistant experience, certification required prior to hire

  • Certification preferred for those with >1 year Medical Assistant experience

  • EMR experience and proficiency required

  • 2+ years of experience working with geriatric patients is preferred

  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred

  • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation

  • Demonstrates problem‑solving skills, accountability, and a flexible, positive attitude

  • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve (where necessary and indicated in Job title)

  • US work authorization

  • Someone who embodies being "Oaky"

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$18.50 - $38.82

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
