Job summary

Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care under physician and nursing supervision. You will compile medical data, enter it into the EHR, assist in exam rooms, record vital signs, and locate past records as requested.

You will also support clerical research tasks, assist with appointments, maintain clinical computer systems, and help coordinate prescriptions. A BS in biology or related field is preferred, with strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Intention to enroll in pre-med/PA or health programs preferred.
  • Patient-centered with strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9/CPT coding.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Compile patient data and enter into EHR.
  • Assist provider in exam room as requested.
  • Enter patient vital signs and pull past medical records.
  • Prepare patient progress notes.
  • Triage calls and document appropriately.
  • Communicate data to physicians and nurses for continuity of care.
  • Clerical support for clinical research: collect data, enter into database, maintain files.
  • Clerical duties for patient appointments and care: stock rooms, prep charts, maintain clinical systems.
  • Process prescriptions after physician approval.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in practice improvements to enhance procedures and patient care.

Description
Provide direct patient care within the medical assistant’s scope of practice under the direct supervision of physicians and nursing staff- N o formal Medical Assistance certification needed.
  • Compile patient medical data and enter into EHR
  • Assist provider in exam room as requested
  • Enters the patient’s vital signs.
  • Looks up patients’ pertinent past medical records, at Physician’s request.
  • Preparation of patient progress notes.
  • Assist with triage of patient calls and document appropriately
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to physicians and nurses to ensure quality and continuity of patient care
Perform clerical duties in support of clinical research under the direction of the Clinical Research Coordinator.
  • Collects, records and files patient study data and paperwork.
  • Inputs information into study database.
  • Maintains subject files in accordance with study protocols.
  • Assembles patient enrollment and visit packets
Perform clerical duties in support of patient appointments and patient care.

Clean and stock exam rooms ensuring equipment and supplies are available

Assists with chart and document preparation for patient appointments.

Developed and maintain competency on clinical computer systems

Assist with prescription dissemination by reviewing chart for required information and calling\\faxing pharmacy once physician approval is obtained

Perform miscellaneous medical records and other clerical duties as a signs

Assist supervisor, nurse and physician secretary as requested

Assist in obtaining necessary prior authorization for prescribed treatments

Perform other related duties, as assigned by the supervisor or the physician.
  • Participate in practice improvements by implementing changes to procedures/ workflows, identifying opportunities for improvement, and assisting with the delivery of compassionate and personalized patient care.
Requirements
Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry or another related field.

Prefer individuals with intention to enroll in pre‑med, pre‑PA, or other health‑related educational programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Patient centered, strong customer service orientation.

Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines and troubleshoot and resolve problems.

Ability to work independently, exhibit mature judgment and make sound decisions.

Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9/CPT coding.

Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost judgment and discretion.

Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
