Job summary

American Family Care in Gastonia, NC is seeking an outpatient medical assistant to support licensed providers in a clinic setting. You will obtain vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare patients for exams, while explaining procedures and ensuring timely lab processing.

The role requires an AA degree or equivalent, with AMT registration and AAMA certification preferred; flexible duties include documentation, immunizations, specimen processing, and referrals as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; six months to one year related experience and/or training.
  • AMT registration and AAMA certification preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit; prepare patient for a physical exam.
  • Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
  • Perform laboratory tests and ensure timely processing.
  • Draw blood and prepare labs for processing.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation; sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per approved procedure.
  • Respond to lab messages and call-back requests.
  • Conduct drug screening procedures as required.
  • Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered.
  • Coordinate physician referrals and pre-certifications as needed.
  • Prepare exam rooms and manage supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam
  • Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients
  • Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure
  • Draw blood and prepare labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing
  • Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions
  • Respond to all lab messages and call back requests
  • Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations
  • Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure
  • Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
  • Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. AMT registered and AAMA Certified Medical Assistants are preferred.

Compensation

$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
