Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a General Medical Assistant to provide general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider in outpatient clinic settings. This role supports a franchised AFC location with duties that may vary by franchise.

The position involves vitals, patient education, specimen handling, lab tasks, immunizations, and coordination of referrals. Training and development opportunities are available within a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college/technical school; AMT registered and AAMA certification are preferred.
  • Six months to one year of related experience or training.
  • AMT and AAMA credentials are preferred qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit; prepare patient for physical exam.
  • Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
  • Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per approved procedure.
  • Draw blood and prepare labs for reference lab processing or in-house processing.
  • Perform laboratory tests, lab quality controls, and equipment maintenance per instructions.
  • Respond to lab messages and callback requests.
  • Conduct drug screening procedures per rules and regulations.
  • Ensure immunizations are well documented and administered; conduct physician referrals and pre-certifications as needed.
  • Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
Six months to one-year related experience and/or training
AMT registered and AAMA Certified Medical Assistants preferred

Qualifications

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. AMT registered and AAMA Certified Medical Assistants are preferred.
