Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide general medical care in an outpatient clinic setting. The role works directly with a franchised location, with duties and benefits varying between franchises.

The position involves taking vitals, preparing patients for exams, administering procedures, handling lab work, and maintaining documentation, under the direction of a licensed provider.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent; AMT registered and AAMA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit; prepare patient for physical exam.
• Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
• Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and timely.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments per procedure.
• Draw blood and prepare labs for reference or in-house processing.
• Perform laboratory tests and equipment maintenance per instructions.
• Respond to lab messages and call back requests.
• Perform drug screening procedures per regulations.
• Document immunizations accurately.
• Coordinate physician referrals and pre-certifications as needed.
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments and supplies.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school

• Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions
• Respond to all lab messages and call back requests
• Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations
• Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure
• Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. AMT registered and AAMA Certified Medical Assistants are preferred.
