Job summary

The City of Frederick is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the FCAA clinic's delivery of health care services. The role includes direct patient care under supervision, plus clerical duties like greeting patients, scheduling, and data entry, with emphasis on infection control and records management.

  • Assist with cleaning and general maintenance of the clinic and environmental safety.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of the Medical Assistant is to facilitate the delivery of health care services in the FCAA clinic. Duties include completion of clerical and reception responsibilities, delivering direct patient care and performing maintenance and infection control measures. This individual will receive direct supervision from a Nurse Practitioner and Health Center Supervisor. Regular work hours for this position vary, but may include overtime, evening, weekend and/or holiday work hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide specifically delegated patient care services under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner or Physician such as obtaining histories and vital signs, administering injections, and performing electrocardiograms and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform reception and clerical duties essential to the operation of the clinic such as greeting and discharging patients, making appointments, answering phones and communicating with patients, families, agencies and other providers.
  • Maintain all paper and electronic records and forms as needed; perform data entry tasks as assigned.
  • Respond to environmental accidents and assist in the general maintenance and cleaning of the agency especially the health care clinic.
  • Assist with other clerical, client service, and clinical duties as required or assigned.
  • Performs other duties asassigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the provision of patient care in a clinic or office setting or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • EHR experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
  • Vehicle Operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
  • CPR/Stop the bleed certification.
REQUIRED SKILLS (Communication/Language; Mathematical; Computer; etc.):
  • Comfortable with pediatric patients (Vaccine administration).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents using the English Language.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to provide services to persons who are low-income and/or homeless.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use basic computer programs such as MS Office.
OTHER DESIRABLES:
  • Ability to communicate using the Spanish Language.
  • Ability to communicate using American Sign Language.
  • Medical Assistant certification.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to observe and inspect items directly in front or to either side of self, to assess items at a distance, to distinguish colors, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is subject to the use of Universal Precautions as required by the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan, and to annual Tuberculosis (TB) Testing as required by the Tuberculosis Prevention Plan.

The employee is exposed periodically to outside weather conditions, but most work is performed in a typical office setting. Open-toed shoes and sandals are prohibited in the work setting; steel-toed work boots and other personal protective equipment may be required.
