Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers with patient history taking, vital signs, exam room readiness, and procedural assistance. You will greet patients, document medical histories, and help maintain an organized, compassionate patient experience.

The ideal candidate will have MA training with externship or 1+ year clinical experience, CPR/BLS, and EPIC EMR familiarity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with externship (160 hours minimum)
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with minimum one-year clinical medical assisting experience within the past five years
  • Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with minimum one-year clinical experience
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with minimum one-year clinical experience within the past five years
  • Military trained medical personnel with minimum one-year clinical experience within the past five years

Responsibilities

  • Greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms and obtaining medical histories
  • Measuring and recording vital signs with accurate documentation
  • Preparing patients for examinations and procedures and explaining next steps
  • Providing clinical support to the provider during examinations and procedures to ensure an efficient patient experience

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the provider and/or nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks essential to delivering quality and compassionate patient care.

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will begin each patient interaction by greeting and escorting patients to the exam room, where they will obtain comprehensive medical histories and establish a welcoming environment. Throughout the patient visit, the Medical Assistant will measure and record vital signs, ensuring accurate documentation for clinical review. In preparation for examinations and procedures, the Medical Assistant will ready patients by explaining next steps and positioning them appropriately. During provider interactions, the Medical Assistant will provide clinical support by assisting the provider throughout examinations and procedures, facilitating a seamless and efficient patient experience.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • One of the following:
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hours minimum)
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with minimum one-year clinical medical assisting experience within the past five years
  • Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with minimum one-year clinical experience
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with minimum one-year clinical experience within the past five years
  • Military trained medical personnel with minimum one-year clinical experience within the past five years
Preferred Qualifications
  • Computer proficiency and EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Clinical skills experience in ambulatory patient care settings
Certifications/Licensures Required
  • Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation
