Job summary

Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), a McKesson subsidiary, is seeking a Medical Assistant for clinical trial support. You will assist with port access, lab draws, patient prep, and physician support within a research-focused clinical environment.

Role involves vital signs, EKGs, sample handling, paperwork, and coordination with research staff. Prior MA training and current BLS are preferred; compensation reflects clinical trial settings.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids.
• Skill in venipuncture and blood processing.
• Skill in computer applications.
• Skill in gathering and reporting information.
• Medical Assistant training is preferred.
• Medical Clinic or Clinical laboratory and phlebotomy or equivalent experience.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Access, flush and de-access ports.
• Perform peripheral and port lab draws.
• Prepare patient for examination.
• Assist physicians with procedures as needed.
• Prepare and stock exam rooms.
• Obtain vital signs and EKGs from PK patients.
• Perform buccal swabs on PK patients as needed.
• Maintain EKG machines (clinic and sponsor).
• Prepare study lab kits for PK patients with long days and new starts.
• Respond to queries from study sponsor or contract lab regarding patient/sample data.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and workspace in all areas.
• Interface with P/SL and laboratory personnel regarding labs for research patients.
• Interface with Clinic Research Nurses to ensure correct lab kits for patient visits.
• Order medical supplies as needed.
• Obtain radiology authorizations.
• Respond to emails daily.
• Utilize EMR for documentation.
• Assist other research personnel in the clinic when requested.

As a Medical Assistant you will perform medical assistant related procedures for patients enrolled in clinical trials.

• You will access, flush and de-access ports.

• You will perform buccal swabs on pharmacokinetics (PK) patients as needed.
• You will ensure proper maintenance/handling of EKG machines (clinic and sponsor EKGs)
• You will verify the correct study lab kit is prepped for the pharmacokinetic (PK) patients with long days and new starts every morning prior to patient arriving.
• You will respond to queries generated from study sponsor or contract lab regarding patient/sample data.
• You will maintain laboratory equipment and workspace in all areas.
• You will interface with P/SL and laboratory personnel regarding labs for research patients.
• You will interface with the Clinic Research Nurses to ensure that all research patients have correct lab kits prior to patient visits.
• You will order medical supplies as needed.
• You will obtain radiology authorizations.
• You will respond to emails daily.
• You will utilize electronic medical record source for documentation.
• You will assist other research personnel in the clinic when requested.
