Job summary

UPMC Western Maryland Cardiac Physicians' Practice in Cumberland seeks a dedicated Medical Assistant for a full-time, dayshift position. No weekends or holidays; prior MA experience preferred.

You will support physicians with patient care, clerical tasks, and clinic operations to ensure high patient satisfaction and efficient workflow. Responsibilities include vitals, phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection, patient education, record handling, and compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in patient care and clinical support is preferred.
  • CPR certification may be required per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams.
  • Collect patient information/history; take vitals, perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Send/receive patient records per HIPAA and regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain infection control and clean rooms between visits.
  • Maintain records of maintenance and restock supplies.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and restock rooms.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements (OSHA, CLIA, PA Dept of Health).
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical records and data.
  • Comply with UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
  • Perform clinic procedures according to policy.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Document patient information in the medical record.
  • Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referrals.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts for filing.
  • Other front office responsibilities as required.
  • High school diploma required.
  • CPR required within 30 days of hire.

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday dayshift position. No weekends or holidays required. Previous Medical Assistant experience is highly preferred.

As a Medical Assistant, you will assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities:
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.

  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.

  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, etc.

  • Collect patient information/history; take vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.

  • Relay instructions to patients/families.

  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.

  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.

  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.

  • Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keep appropriate records.

  • Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.

  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).

  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.

  • Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.

  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.

  • Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.

  • Assist physicians with procedures.

  • Document patient information in the medical record.

  • Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.

  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.

  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.

  • Schedule appointments.

  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.

  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.

  • Other front office responsibilities, as required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
