Qualifications

Medical Assistant at Helendale Dermatology and Medical Spa

Job Description

The Medical Assistant will assist Providers (i.e. M.D., N.P., P.A.) with patient care as well as cross train to the Front Desk. They will create an atmosphere that reflects the level of standards and care that patients can expect to receive from this practice. The Provider entrusts the goodwill of patients to the medical staff, therefore extending their relationship with the patient.

To be successful in this position, the medical assistant must be cheerful, friendly, polite, tactful, and professional in appearance and manner at all times. They will be able to communicate effectively with providers and patients. They will be mindful of patient confidentiality. They will be able to evaluate and respond to a patient's needs and relay the provider's instructions. The successful medical assistant will be a team player and respectful of their co-workers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As assigned, but not limited to the following:

• Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, assist provider with patient care.
• Escort patient to and from exam room, help patients prepare for exam.
• Enter patient history, reason for visit and transcribe for provider into patient's electronic medical record.
• Clean per CDC guidelines the exam rooms between patients.
• Set up for surgeries per provider's instructions and assist with surgical procedure.
• Prepare path/lab specimens, fill out correct requisitions accurately.
• Retrieve path/lab reports as directed. Follow up per provider's instructions.
• Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed. Document important conversations in the triage section of the patient's chart.
• Notify patients of path/lab results.
• Phone prescriptions and refills to pharmacy.
• Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all medical equipment and instruments.
• Upkeep and cleanliness of exam rooms. Supply cabinets always well stocked.
• Make sure to document all medical instructions given to patients.
• Knowledgeable and compliant with HIPAA.
• Knowledgeable of all products and procedures in office. Able to explain both to patients.
• Be knowledgeable of fees for products and procedures.
• May require obtaining preauthorization for medications.
• Check in and check out patients.
• Collect copays.
• Answer telephones.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma
Experience: Prior patient care experience required.
Certification: BLS CPR Required

Knowledgeable of medical terminology and ICD-10 codes. Computer knowledge a must; previous use of electronic medical records required.

Sometimes busy, hectic and/or noisy with interruptions. Exposure to routine dermatological diseases and procedures.
