Job summary

Premier Health Partners, PC is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our ambulatory team in Buffalo, NY. The role includes cross- training to perform Patient Services Representative duties and deliver high-quality patient care alongside our medical staff.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • BLS Certification preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • 1 year experience as a medical assistant in an ambulatory care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations by rooming, taking vital signs, and recording medical histories.
  • Greet and check in patients; verify demographics and insurance, collect payments and co-pays.
  • Direct calls to nurse/provider for urgent matters or clinical needs.
  • Perform routine lab tests and label specimens.
  • Schedule and manage patient appointments; reschedule or cancel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in the EMR and paper files.
  • Obtain insurance information and prior authorizations for testing.
  • Ensure cleanliness and inventory of patient rooms and supplies.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and colleagues.

Salary Range: $18.00 To $21.00 Hourly

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our ambulatory team. As a Medical Assistant you will also be cross‑trained to perform Patient Services Representative duties. You will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our medical staff. If you have a passion for helping others and possess the necessary medical knowledge and skills.

Job Duties
  • Prepares patient for examinations by rooming patient, taking vital signs, height/weight, reason for visit, screenings, and recording medical histories
  • Greets and checks in patients upon arrival; Verify demographics, check insurance eligibility, collect and processes payments and co-pays
  • Answers and direct phone calls, addressing patient inquiries and questions. Will redirect call to nurse/provider to note and triage urgent matters or other clinical needs.
  • Performs routine lab tests and collects and labels laboratory specimens
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage appointment calendar. Make new and follow up appointments, reschedule, and cancels appointments as needed.
  • Maintains accurate patient records in electronic health record (EMR) system as well as any paper files. Assist as needed with locating charts/pulling charts for the next day appointments or printing information from EMR and acquiring reports from outside facilities.
  • Assists with answers and direct phone calls, addressing patient inquiries and questions. Will redirect call to nurse/provider to note and triage urgent matters or other clinical needs.
  • Obtains patients insurance information, demographics, and prior authorizations for testing.
  • Ensures cleanliness of patient rooms, stocks and reorganizes medical supplies and manages inventory
  • Ensures patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Participates in staff development and staff meetings
  • Provide excellent customer service with professionalism and strong interpersonal skills to ensure a positive experience for patients, vendors, and other healthcare team members
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, preferred
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant, preferred

Experience:

  • 1 year experience as a medical assistant in an ambulatory care setting, preferred
  • Proficient in performing clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, updating patient chart information and recording other medical data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families and healthcare team members
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and other healthcare technology
  • Critical thinking, time management, strong communication, problem-solving, and ability to handle various clinical situations.
