Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a Clinical Support Assistant to provide direct clinical support in a local health clinic under supervision. You will guide patients through visits, perform basic screening tasks, and document care in the EHR to ensure accurate charting.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, venipuncture, vaccines, wound care, and assisting providers during exams. The role emphasizes teamwork, patient safety, and adherence to infection control and PPE protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Guide patients through visits: confirm reason for visit, provide explanations, escort to clinical areas, and serve as chaperone when needed
  • Take vital signs, growth measures, vision/hearing screens, and document thoroughly in the electronic health record at the time of service
  • Perform venipuncture, capillary sticks, point‑of‑care testing, collect/process lab specimens, complete lab requisitions, and follow all quality‑control and specimen‑handling procedures
  • Administer vaccines, TB skin tests, and provider‑ordered medications (IM, SQ, oral, topical, inhalation, eye/ear/nasal), and document accurately
  • Provide simple wound care, dressing changes, EKGs, and spirometry
  • Prepare patients for exams, assist providers during examinations, and collect medical history for provider review
  • Maintain clinic flow and safety: clean and stock rooms daily, follow infection‑control and bloodborne‑pathogen standards, use appropriate PPE, and report safety hazards or incidents promptly
  • Support clinic operations by adopting new workflows/technology quickly, participating in staff meetings and required trainings, and contributing to team‑based problem solving and customer‑focused service
