Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Non-exempt

Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a certified Medical Assistant with excellent customer service and patient interaction skills to join our team. The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under supervision. Responsibilities include venipuncture, medication and vaccine administration, vital signs measurement and documentation, assisting providers with exams, and clerical support.

The position may require floating to other sites within the system.

Primary Duties:

  • Assist providers with patient prep, office procedures, examinations, and patient education. Support clinical care team to ensure optimal patient flow. Review and prepare for scheduled visits, screen patients for preventive care, ongoing support, barriers, safety, and fall risks. Conduct surveillance for care transitions, urgent/emergent needs, and follow-up. Conduct motivational interviews on disease management, behavioral health needs, and community outreach.
  • Report patient, family, and staff concerns. Participate in performance improvement initiatives. Maintain compliance with safety and infection control protocols. Participate in population management activities, including patient engagement, goal setting, pre-visit planning, and data capture for healthcare improvement.
  • Perform selected testing such as Point of Care, TB skin testing, EKG, pulmonary function, vision, and hearing tests. Remove sutures/staples. Document activities in EMR. Follow up on tests like pap smears, lead levels, HIV, mammograms, and STDs. Collect and process specimens, complete requisitions.
  • Assist with patient discharge, provide chaperoning, and fulfill infection prevention responsibilities. Update equipment maintenance records and manage medical supplies. Provide telephone screening services to gather patient information and determine appropriate care disposition.
  • May insert IV catheters, urinary catheters, and administer oral and injectable medications within scope. Perform phlebotomy. Use EMR for medication refills, test requisitions, and insurance pre-authorizations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience in ambulatory care or equivalent
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists within 1 year
  • Externship in a medical or ambulatory setting preferred
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • For Cardiology offices: 6 months ambulatory care experience, or related degree, or cardiac technician course preferred

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications include a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
