Job summary

Corewell Health Urgent Care in Alabama is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to join a fast-paced clinical team. You will prepare patients, take vitals, assist with exams, and support lab and documentation in EPIC.

This full-time role offers a 3-day/12-hour shift schedule (7AM–7PM), a benefits package, PTO, holidays, 401(k) match, and opportunities for certification reimbursement and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program (diploma or certificate) or CMA/RMA certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience in urgent care/ER setting requested.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, injections, and general clinical procedures.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EPIC preferred).
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour shifts, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for exams and treatments, ensuring comfort and information.
  • Take vitals and perform triage as part of clinical workflow.
  • Document patient history accurately in the EMR.
  • Collect routine lab specimens (blood, urine, swabs).
  • Administer medications and injections per protocol.
  • Assist with splinting, sutures, wounds and basic procedures.
  • Perform aseptic and basic lab procedures to support care.
  • Support Occupational Medicine tasks (drug screens, audiograms, etc.).
  • Maintain HIPAA and OSHA compliance in daily duties.
  • Handle general administrative tasks and operate medical equipment.
  • Support travel Staffing across Beaumont Urgent Care locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Preparation: Assist with preparing patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring they are comfortable and well-informed.
  • Triage & Vital Signs: Perform triage and take vital signs accurately.
  • Documenting Patient History: Obtain and document detailed patient history in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in a timely manner.
  • Lab Specimens: Collect routine laboratory specimens, including blood, urine, and oral swabs.
  • Medication & Injections: Administer medications and non‑intravenous injections, including intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform splinting, suture and staple removal, ear/eye wash, and procedure setup.
  • Clinical & Laboratory Procedures: Perform basic clinical, aseptic, and laboratory procedures to support patient care.
  • Occupational Medicine: Assist with our Occupational Medicine services, including drug screening, breath alcohol testing, audiograms, and pulmonary function testing, while adhering to company protocols.
  • Compliance: Enforce and maintain healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
  • Administrative Duties: Perform office procedures and general administrative tasks; proficiently operate office medical equipment.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee compliance with quality assurance programs, CLIA waived laboratory requirements, and patient result trackers.
  • Travel Requirement: Support staffing and operational needs by traveling to other Beaumont Urgent Care locations as required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum Qualifications (must meet one of the following):

    • Completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution (diploma or certificate), OR

    • Current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), OR

    • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an urgent care or ER/hospital setting

  • Clinical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture, injections, and general clinical procedures

  • Technical Skills: Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR); EPIC preferred

  • Flexibility: Ability to work 12‑hour shifts, including weekends and holidays

  • Team Player: Positive, proactive approach to patient care and collaboration
