Summary:
The Medical Assistant I, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic setting. Works under the supervision of the provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of the manager/supervisor for non-clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs rooming and intake processes, collecting vital signs, height, weight, and reason for visit data.
  2. Collects patient and family medical and social history.
  3. Reviews current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
  4. Assists providers during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  5. Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
  6. Administers medications under provider supervision.
  7. Performs tests such as EKGs and eye exams under provider direction.
  8. Reviews patient records to identify routine health screenings needed.
  9. Prepares exam/procedure rooms with supplies, equipment, and educational materials.
  10. Provides patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials.
  11. Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
  12. Sterilizes instruments.
  13. Assists with patient registration, check-in/out, scheduling tests, treatments, and referrals.
  14. Answers clinic calls and assists with in-basket messages under provider or nurse direction.
  15. Assists in emergency situations as directed.

Other Information:

Education Requirements: None required; completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Medical Assistant certification from recognized agencies and BLS certification from AHA or ARC required.

Experience: Prior medical assistant or externship experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Effective communication, teamwork, computer skills, and ability to perform essential functions.
