Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Medicaid/SSI Eligibility Specialist to guide indigent patients through the Medicaid application process, from submission to award or denial. You will advocate for patient coverage and represent UNC Health Care System in appeals hearings at local and state levels.

Ideal candidates hold an associate degree, have 2 years in social services or healthcare, and demonstrate strong data/reporting and communication skills; Spanish fluency is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in an appropriate discipline (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
• Two (2) years of experience in a social services or healthcare organization.
• Experience working with data and preparing reports.
• Strong Written and Verbal Communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Obtains detailed personal, financial and asset information to determine if patient qualifies for Medicaid/SSI programs.
• Explains programs and advises patients on eligibility by rearranging finances and assets.
• Follows through with applicants to obtain complete information within strict timeframes.
• Reviews denials and advocates for coverage with Medicaid offices to reverse initial denial.
• Represents UNC Health Care System in appeal hearings at local, state, and court levels.
