Job description

Dotted Line is an award-winning, strategically inspired agency that focuses on brand, creative, content, and media. We blend data, media, and creative thinking to uncover and activate growth our clients didn’t know was possible. Our growing roster of national and regional clients has one thing in common: each is a highly ambitious company looking to drive sustainable growth. To support their ambitious goals, we hire top performers across creative, advertising, media, and communications.

Recognized as a top place to work in Virginia, Dotted Line is a values-led organization, driving our commitment to our clients, the work, and one another. Our team members love working here because of our clear vision, strong culture, collaborative process, investment in personal and professional development, and transparent communications. Visit us at www.dottedline.agency to learn more about our team and approach.

About You
  • You are an experienced media professional who is equally comfortable inside a DSP and in front of a client.
  • You can build the plan, defend the plan, buy the plan, and then explain honestly what it did and did not deliver.
  • You see around corners—catching pacing problems, delivery gaps, and flight changes before they become client problems.
  • You are fluent in the digital ecosystem and still know how to negotiate a strong linear TV buy.
  • You know the difference between data and insight, and you refuse to hand a client a report that only says what happened.
  • You are a mentor at heart, eager to help planners grow in confidence and skill.
  • You are a trusted partner to account, creative, strategy, and analytics teams.
Specifically, you:
  • Have 6–10 years of media planning and buying experience within an agency, with progressive ownership of client relationships and budgets.
  • Bring deep digital experience across programmatic (DV360, StackAdapt, The Trade Desk, or similar), paid social (Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit), paid search (Google Ads), and video (CTV/OTT, YouTube, online video).
  • We’d love it if you have hands‑on linear television experience—market and station negotiation, broadcast and cable buys, ratings and CPP/CPM analysis, makegoods, posting, and station relationships. Audio, OOH, and print experience is a plus.
  • Are fluent in research and planning tools such as Nielsen, Comscore, MRI‑Simmons, Scarborough, Vivvix/CMR, and Kantar.
  • Are highly skilled in Excel or Google Sheets—pivot tables, flowcharts, budget models, and reconciliation.
  • Understand measurement architecture: tags and pixels, GA4, Looker/Google Data Studio or similar reporting platforms, and test design (geo, holdout, incrementality).
  • Have experience managing, mentoring, or developing planners, coordinators, or assistant buyers.
  • Are disciplined about budgets, billing, and reconciliation, and prior experience managing media buys thru Bionic or Mediaocean.
  • Are motivated by efficiency, accuracy, and clear communication.
  • Thrive in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment where priorities shift and progress is key.
About the Job

As Dotted Line’s Media Supervisor, you own the media product for a portfolio of clients—from the strategic recommendation through negotiation, activation, optimization, and post‑campaign analysis. You are the person who connects a client’s business goal to a channel mix, then holds that plan accountable to real outcomes. You will lead the day‑to‑day media relationship, supervise the planners supporting your accounts, and partner closely with strategy, creative, account, and analytics to deliver work that performs and can be proven.

Strategy and Planning
  • Lead media planning for assigned clients—audience definition, channel mix, budget allocation, flighting, and measurement design.
  • Translate business objectives into media objectives, and media objectives into tactical plans with defensible rationale.
  • Build and present media plans, flowcharts, and budget summaries that clients can act on.
  • Size opportunities and pressure‑test assumptions using research, benchmarks, and prior campaign performance.
Buying and Activation
  • Negotiate and steward linear television buys, including cable, broadcast, and local market negotiations, plus audio and OOH where applicable.
  • Direct programmatic, paid social, and paid search activation—setting the strategy, QA’ing the build, and owning in‑flight performance.
  • Manage pacing, delivery, and optimization across the portfolio, making real‑time decisions with confidence.
  • Own vendor and partner relationships, holding them accountable to added value, makegoods, and performance commitments.
Measurement and Client Leadership
  • Own the reporting narrative: what happened, why it happened, and what we should do next.
  • Partner with analytics on test design, incrementality reads, and attribution questions.
  • Present performance and recommendations directly to clients with clarity and candor.
  • Manage budgets, billing, and reconciliation with accuracy and discipline.
Team and Agency
  • Coach and mentor media planners and coordinators, building both craft and client confidence.
  • Contribute to new business—building media approaches, budgets, and points of view for pitches.
  • Keep the agency sharp on emerging channels, platforms, and measurement approaches, including retail media, CTV, and AI‑driven buying and optimization.
  • Model calm, proactive communication and trust‑based collaboration across all teams.
Desired Experience
  • Proven experience leading integrated media campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
  • Strong knowledge of the programmatic ecosystem (SSPs, exchanges, data and audience targeting, supply path).
  • Demonstrated success improving campaign efficiency and outcomes through structured testing.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • A balance of analytical and empathetic leadership—able to motivate and mentor teams while maintaining accountability.
  • Excellent time management and problem‑solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Health, Dental, and Vision benefits
  • Hybrid work environment option
  • Culture‑building activities
  • Retirement Plan
  • Unlimited paid time off with 4 weeks minimum
  • 14 paid company holidays including the week between Christmas and New Year’s
Company Values We Live Every Day
  • Treat team members, clients, and partners like you want to be treated
  • Always be improving, learning, and growing
  • Collaborate and be a team player
  • Go the extra mile
  • Do work we are proud of
  • Focus on client results
Why Should You Apply?
  • Opportunity to shape how media is planned, bought, and measured at a growing agency
  • Ownership of real client relationships and real budgets, without layers of bureaucracy
  • A team that treats measurement and analytics as a competitive advantage, not an afterthought
  • Opportunity to collaborate with a team of experienced marketing and creative leaders
  • Work within a supportive, transparent culture that invests in your growth
