CT State Community College is seeking a Media Specialist to support instructional media services at the Housatonic campus in Bridgeport, CT. Position Summary

The Community Colleges rely on a wide range of technology-based media for instructing students and communicating among staff and public. These media include:

  • Video recording and post-production editing, including audio, graphic and special effects.
  • Audio recording and transmission.
  • Satellite down-link instruction and communication.
  • Photography and photo processing.
  • Desk top publishing, graphics and printing.

The Media Specialist supports these services at a Community College by developing and producing programs and products in these multi-media areas as well as assisting and advising faculty, students and staff in their own productions. Most of the Community College system institutions have permanently installed instructional media equipment. The position supports faculty on-line and on-campus with digital materials and techniques including web site maintenance and digital services for creating and animating graphics.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Media Services or other administrator, the Media Specialist is accountable for providing the presentation support technology required for the College’s instruction and promotional needs through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Operation of instructional media services
    • Accountable for performing and overseeing the creation and production of instructional and promotional materials and programs to support the College’s learning and communication requirements.
  • Assisting in development of instructional media services
    • Accountable for contributing to the continuing development of the College’s media services.
  • Advice and assistance to faculty and staff in multi-media production
    • Accountable for helping faculty, students and staff to make optimum use of media services to aid in academic and administrative presentations.
Additional responsibilities include
  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to communications or instructional technology together with two (2) or more years of experience in a related field; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Television and audio-visual production and post-production techniques and methods.
  • Television, audio-visual, and imaging equipment and its operation and general maintenance.
  • Instructing and advising users and assigned staff in multi-media production techniques and methods.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of professional experience related to classroom audio/visual technology, event support, and educational multimedia content
  • Experience using audio and visual equipment for live events
  • Experience streaming events and programs
  • Experience creating instructional videos and/or multimedia content
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or similar programs for editing
  • Experience working in a college or university setting

Selection Process
