Position Summary

CT State Community College system offers two-year liberal arts degree programs in an open enrollment environment andalso offers a broad range of career, occupational and technical certificate programs in order to meet the varied learningneeds of the populations served. These programs emphasize the linkage between academic studies and practical careerapplication.

The Career Readiness Coordinator collaborates with the Director of Career Services in developing career-related jobopportunities among area employers for the students of a Community College. The Coordinator also assists indevelopment, administration and marketing of programs which integrate students’ academic studies with practical work experience in their career fields. These programs may encompass such areas as cooperative education, career services, andspecial grant-funded programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of theDean of Students or other administrator, the Career Readiness Coordinator is accountable for promoting and obtaining the participation of employers in programsfor placement of the College’s students in career-related internships and jobs to provide students with experience andpermanent employmentthrougheffective performance in these essential functional areas:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development of employment opportunities
  • Marketing the College’s career programs to employers, students, and faculty
  • Guiding students on career-related employment and skill-building

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree inan appropriately relevant field with two (2) or moreyears of experience applying those disciplines in a field related to career development, placement,education administration, or business;or a combination of education, training and experience that would lead to the competencies required forsuccessful performance of the position’s essential duties.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct, student facing experience in a post-secondary educational setting.
  • Working knowledge supporting career readiness exploration utilizing platforms such as: Big Interview, Handshake, Forage, Focus2Career or similar platforms.

Selection Process
