PURPOSE

This position will teach foundational technology skills on the elementary specials rotation and, in some instances, serve as the building media clerk when not teaching. The instructional aide should be able to reinforce concepts/skills, monitor student progress, assist with discipline and assist with the planning process. This position is full-time, and is 35 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Teach foundational technology skills on the elementary specials rotation.
  • Serve as the building media clerk (in some instances based on building population)
  • Supervises students in the media center and/or computer lab as needed.
  • Assists the media specialist in lesson design based on the needs of the school
  • Understand how to utilize hardware (iPad and Windows OS) for learning and instruction.
  • Provides assistance in clerical tasks as needed.
  • Participates in appropriate in-service training.

Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Building Principal/Media Specialist

Supervises: None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: Missouri substitute teaching certificate;36+ college credit hours, or Associates degree, or 20-hour DESE sub course, or ParaPro assessment.Prior experience in a school setting and/or working with young people.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, Missouri teaching certificate, previous teaching experience, ability to work in a team teaching setting; A strong desire to teach and be responsible for instructing children as assigned.

Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
