Job description

First Baptist Church Lafayette exists to help people find real meaning — not a slogan, but the driving purpose behind everything we do, from our Sunday services to the media that carries our message into homes across Acadiana. Under the leadership of Senior Pastor Dr. James Pritchard, our congregation is committed to reaching this region for Christ, and our broadcast and livestream ministry is one of the furthest-reaching tools we have to do it.

We're looking for a media or broadcast professional ready to bring real production experience into work that carries eternal weight — not just an audience, but people whose lives are genuinely shaped by what happens in front of that camera each week.

Before anything else, this is a ministry position. We are looking for someone with an active, growing relationship with Jesus Christ, a demonstrated commitment to a local church, and a life that reflects the doctrinal and conduct standards of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, including full abstention from alcohol. That's not a box to check — it's the foundation everything else is built on.If you've felt a pull toward work that matters beyond the next job title, we'd love to hear from you.

Major Responsibilities
Broadcast & Television
  • Manage all broadcast television relationships, including station contracts, scheduling, and compliance requirements, consistent with the doctrinal commitments and ministry values of First Baptist Church of Lafayette.
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of weekly worship content for television distribution.
  • Monitor broadcast performance and maintain ratings records and station reporting requirements.
  • Direct the video control room during Sunday morning worship services, coordinating camera operators, graphics, and technical crew to produce a broadcast- and livestream-ready program.
  • Ensure quality and consistency of the church’s broadcast presentation in alignment with the Senior Pastor’s vision and the doctrinal commitments of First Baptist Church of Lafayette.
Livestream & Digital Distribution
  • Oversee the technical production and execution of weekly livestream services.
  • Manage livestream platform settings, streaming requirements, and distribution channels.
  • Coordinate with the in-room production team to ensure a seamless outside-the-room viewer experience.
  • Monitor livestream performance analytics and report findings to the Executive Pastor and Communications Director.
Recording, Editing & Content Production
  • Oversee the recording, editing, archiving, and distribution of all worship services.
  • Produce video content for broadcast, digital, and ministry use as directed by the Executive Pastor.
  • Provide media production support to all ministry departments of First Baptist Church of Lafayette as directed by the Executive Pastor.
  • Maintain proper storage and archiving systems for all recorded worship and ministry content.
Equipment, Systems & Budget
  • Oversee media production equipment assigned to broadcast and outside-the-worship-center functions.
  • Maintain, support, and troubleshoot media systems in classroom and educational spaces across the church campus, including classrooms utilized by First Baptist Christian School, ensuring equipment is operational and accessible for ministry and school use.
  • Coordinate with the outside IT vendor on media-related systems, infrastructure, and technical needs.
  • Maintain an inventory of media equipment, recommend capital purchases, and assist with budget planning for media operations.
  • Execute the departmental budget with diligence and stewardship, maintaining accurate records of expenditures and ensuring responsible use of church resources.
  • Work closely with the Technical Director in the development and execution of the media and production budget, coordinating on shared equipment needs, capital planning, and ministry priorities.
  • Coordinate with the in-room production team on shared equipment and technical standards without supervisory authority over that function.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and develop a volunteer team for camera operation, video control room functions, and classroom media oversight across the church campus.
  • Shepherd and invest in volunteers as ministry partners, fostering a team culture consistent with the values of First Baptist Church of Lafayette.
  • Evaluate the need for additional staffing support in coordination with the Executive Pastor, including any restructuring of existing media roles.
General Duties:
  • Keep informed on emerging methods, platforms, technologies, and best practices in media production and broadcast ministry.
  • Bring value to the department and the church by thinking ahead — anticipating ministry needs, planning production calendars in advance, and proactively identifying equipment, staffing, or scheduling needs before they become problems.
  • Cooperate with associational, state, and national programs and leaders. Be involved as time permits, giving priority to the church.
  • Maintain openness to new ideas and flexibility in adopting new strategies of ministry and church communication.
  • Provide support when needed to other departments with “all hands-on deck” ministries (i.e. Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs).
  • Serve as staff liaison for assigned committees and ministry teams as directed by the Executive Pastor.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested by the Senior Pastor.
Working Conditions:
  • The Media Director shall be responsible as an employee to the Senior Pastor, through the Executive Pastor, to the congregation of First Baptist Church of Lafayette. The Media Director will coordinate and cooperate with the Church Staff to discharge all duties and responsibilities.
  • The Media Director’s service to ministry departments across the church will be governed by a scope agreement established by the Executive Pastor prior to or at the start of employment. This agreement will define deliverables, turnaround expectations, and the process for resolving competing departmental priorities.
  • Media support for venues beyond the primary church campus — including offsite events, mission locations, and temporary or seasonal sites — will be addressed on a case‑by‑case basis as directed by the Executive Pastor.
  • The regular work schedule for this position is Sunday through Thursday. Coverage of activities and events occurring on non-regular workdays is expected as required by the ministry calendar.
  • Vacation, holidays, and other circumstances related to working conditions are determined by general personnel policies.
  • The Executive Pastor must approve participation in conferences and conventions.
Qualifications:
  • Be a Christian of high moral character who has demonstrated loyalty to God, the church, and his or her Pastor.
  • Able and willing to sign FBC Lafayette’s Staff Covenant.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent professional experience in media production, broadcast, or a related field will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in media production, broadcast, or livestream in a church or professional media environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in video production, editing, and broadcast workflow management.
  • Familiarity with livestream platforms, broadcast distribution systems, and digital content management.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to lead and work with volunteer teams in a spirit of harmony.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to work cooperatively with other church staff members across departments.
  • Has demonstrated a high level of confidentiality concerning all areas of ministry.
