Job summary

Odessa College in Odessa, TX, seeks a Media Content Specialist to lead digital communications, content strategy, and institutional storytelling across platforms. The role will develop content that strengthens the college’s brand and expands community engagement.

You will manage blogs, social channels, and multimedia content, analyze analytics, and collaborate with campus partners to support enrollment and outreach initiatives. Strong writing and CMS/multimedia skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related field preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in digital communications, marketing, social media management, journalism, public relations, or related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing digital content strategies and managing multiple communication platforms.
  • Proficiency with CMS, social media management platforms, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design/multimedia software.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support college events and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital media and content strategy that supports institutional priorities and outreach.
  • Manage the College’s presence across social media, blog, short form video, on-campus digital communications, press and media relations to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Create, coordinate, and publish engaging content highlighting students, employees, alumni, programs, partnerships, events, and achievements.
  • Monitor engagement, audience behavior, and campaign performance to evaluate effectiveness and suggest improvements.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to identify communication opportunities and develop content supporting college initiatives.
  • Coordinate digital communication plans for major events, enrollment campaigns, outreach, and special projects.
  • Manage the College’s blog content strategy and ensure information is current, accessible, and user-focused.
  • Develop and manage the student content creator program, including recruitment, training, assignments, production schedules, coaching, QA, and brand compliance.
  • Coordinate photography, videography, multimedia content, and asset management for institutional communications.
  • Prepare executive communications, institutional publications, speeches, and strategic messaging as assigned.
  • Serve as media relations coordinator and Public Information Officer, including inquiries, news releases, and crisis communications.
  • Monitor emerging digital trends, technologies, and AI-enabled platforms to enhance outreach and engagement.
  • Attend college events to capture content and support communication efforts.

Job description

The Media Content Specialist leads Odessa College’s digital communications, content strategy, and institutional storytelling efforts. This position develops and manages digital content that strengthens the College’s brand, expands community awareness, increases audience engagement, and supports institutional priorities across multiple communication platforms. The Media Content Specialist uses audience insights, analytics, and emerging technologies to continuously refine communication strategies and maximize the College’s digital presence.

Specific Position Duties
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital media and content strategy that supports institutional priorities, enrollment outreach, workforce development, student engagement, and community awareness.
  • Manage the College’s presence across social media, blog, short form video, on-campus digital communications, traditional press and media relations, and emerging communication platforms to ensure consistent messaging and brand standards.
  • Create, coordinate, and publish engaging content that highlights students, employees, alumni, academic programs, partnerships, campus events, and institutional achievements.
  • Monitor digital engagement, audience behavior, and campaign performance to evaluate effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to identify communication opportunities and develop content that supports college initiatives and strategic priorities.

  • Attend college events to capture content and support institutional communication efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, branding, digital analytics, and emerging communication technologies, including AI-assisted content development.
