Job summary

The State of California seeks a Special Agent to join the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA). Under a Special Agent Supervisor, you will investigate fraud against Medi-Cal, patient abuse in facilities, and drug diversion by Medi-Cal providers across the state.

In this role, you will conduct criminal investigations, coordinate with other agencies, prepare reports, and testify in court. Travel and occasional odd hours are required as part of evidence-based investigations.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting complex fraud, tax or health/quality of care investigations.
• Experience with violent crimes against persons and investigations of crime scenes.
• Knowledge of the California Penal Code, Welfare and Institutions Code, Health and Safety Code, and Insurance Code.
• Must be able to travel across the State of California.
• Excellent writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct criminal investigations involving fraud perpetrated against the Medi-Cal program by providers.
• Investigate patient abuse and neglect in Medicaid certified facilities and drug diversion by Medi‑Cal providers.
• Conduct undercover operations; prepare reports; prepare and serve search warrants; gather evidence.
• Coordinate investigations with other law enforcement agencies; work with prosecutors in court; testify and make arrests.
• Perform other duties as required.
