Job summary

Dayton Children's Hospital seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform a full range of diagnostic tests in an off-site laboratory under the main DC Laboratory guidelines. The role includes sample handling, quality control, and ensuring readiness for regulatory inspections in collaboration with the Core Lab Administration team.

Required Associate's degree in medical technology or military lab procedures, with MT/ASCP/AMT/NCA certification within a year.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree specializing in medical technology from an accredited institution or official military medical laboratory procedures course required.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biologic or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Certifications: 1 of 4 required - MLT(ASCP), AMT, NCA, MT(ASCP) within year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, monitors, orders and stocks laboratory supplies as directed by the Lab Supervisor, according to the needs of all off-site laboratories.
  • Maintains accurate records and coordinates peer communication to ensure continuity of services between all on/off site coworkers.
  • Provides continued relay of information to Lab Supervisor.

Education

Job Details

Performs a full range of simple-to-complex diagnostic tests and laboratory services in an off-site laboratory following the established guidelines of DC main Laboratory. Provides specialized expertise in one or more areas of chemistry, hematology, serology, microbiology, virology, molecular diagnostics or transfusion medicine. Ensures sample suitability and stability and may include sample collection. Professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques of Clinical Laboratory Science to produce timely and accurate results as well as evaluate, judge and interpret results. Accepts and processes samples for on-site testing or forwards samples to references laboratories. Maintains and ensures functionality of laboratory equipment and instruments. Ensures all quality control and quality assurance aspects of testing are maintained. Ensures laboratory is prepared for unannounced inspections from regulatory agencies. Is able to use all Laboratory test ordering systems, reference procedures, and other areas responsible for the functionality of off-site labs.
