Essential Job Functions

1. Cover on-call hours as needed to ensure laboratory coverage.
2. Ensure accurate and timely testing of collected specimens.
3. Perform the full range of laboratory tests: Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
4. Evaluate test results and recognize abnormal values in specific population groups.
5. Operate complex automated laboratory equipment, electronic equipment, computer software, and precision instruments.
6. Identify colorimetric reactions and color differences in crystals.
7. Report laboratory findings to pathologists and other healthcare providers.
8. Develop and modify procedures as needed.
9. Establish and monitor programs to ensure test accuracy.
10. Participate in proficiency testing.
11. Understand and adhere to HIPAA policies and regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
12. Provide excellent customer service to patients, clients, and employees.

Qualifications

• Degree in medical lab science or from a medical lab technician program (Associates or Bachelors).
• Certification: ASCP.
• Experience: Two years.

Physical and Safety Requirements

Lab Techs must wear protective gear at all times and are exposed to infectious samples. Requirements include:

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Lift up to 25 pounds.
• Climb stairs regularly.
• Pass a color vision acuity test per CAP regulations.

Safety and Compliance

This position involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues. Hepatitis-B vaccination is offered to all employees performing these duties.
