Job summary

Simple Laboratories in Chicago seeks a Med Lab Generalist to perform routine and complex clinical tests across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis. You will maintain instruments, ensure accurate results, and support diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities include complex testing with LC-MS/MS and GC-MS, reporting results, QA/QC, and assisting in method development. Team-oriented environment with strong emphasis on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology, chemistry, medical laboratory science or medical technology.
• GC/MS and LC/MS experience required.
• Comfortable in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Proficient with computers and LIS familiarity.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Flexibility for overtime or alternate shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex testing on patient specimens using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and immunoassays.
• Interpret, verify, and report test results per protocols and guidelines.
• Assist in method development, optimization, and validation of new tests.
• Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on lab equipment.
• Verify all chain of custody, quality controls, and calibrations.
• Provide technical assistance to ensure smooth workflow including sample prep and inventory.
• Operate lab equipment, record data and maintain logs.
• Follow quality procedures and confidentiality requirements.
• Consult with staff on routine testing issues and practices.
• Adhere to regulatory and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain safe work environment and wear PPE.
• Document QC activities, calibrations and maintenance performed.
• Guide and train junior staff as needed.

Job description

Simple Laboratories is looking for a Med Lab Generalist to perform routine and complex clinical laboratory tests across multiple disciplines such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and urinalysis - ensuring accurate results, maintaining instruments, and supporting diagnosis and treatment.

Schedule: Monday through Friday | 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM with alternating weekends

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform complex testing on patient specimens using advanced analytical techniques such as LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and immunoassays


• Accurately interpret, verify, and report test results in accordance with laboratory protocols and clinical guidelines


• Assist in method development, optimization, and validation of new clinical tests


• Responsible for performing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on laboratory equipment.


• Verification of all chain of custody documents, quality controls, and calibrations


• Provide technical assistance to ensure smooth laboratory workflow including but not limited to aliquoting, sample preparation, tracking inventory and preparing reagents.


• Operates laboratory equipment, records and maintains data, data logs and equipment


• Understand and follow quality procedures and protocols for security and confidentiality


• Consult with laboratory technical staff regarding routine testing issues and practices


• Adhere to all regulatory and standard operating procedure requirements


• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment


• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed


• Provide guidance and support to junior staff and contribute to training efforts within the laboratory

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree: Biology , Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory requirements


• Prior GC/MS and LC/MS experience required


• Comfortability working in high volume, fast paced environment


• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems


• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at a given time


• High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills


• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
