Job summary

BMCHS seeks a Part-time Medical Assistant to join the Patient Serv Spec department in Brockton, MA. You will provide medical/nursing support, prep patients, and guide them through visits in a clinical and administrative team setting.

Responsibilities include vital signs, history entry in EMR, phlebotomy, vaccinations, scheduling, and outreach to patients for care and testing. High school diploma and MA program completion required; growth and benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; no prior experience required.
  • Education from approved medical assistant program.
  • Phlebotomy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain consents and complete forms for visits.
  • Perform in-office tests and safety controls; administer vaccines as ordered.
  • Perform phlebotomy and venipuncture; collect blood specimens for labs.
  • Chaperone providers as needed and assist with EKGs.
  • Register patients in EMR; verify demographics and insurance information.
  • Schedule appointments and testing; manage pre-visit planning.
  • Inform manager of supply needs and coordinate prior authorizations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Medical Assistant/ Patient Service Specialist will function as a member of the clinical and administrative team and complete assigned daily clinical and administrative operations to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the physician practice. This includes medical/nursing support to provider staff in the ambulatory setting, prepping the patient and seeing them through the entirety of their visit; as well as some responsibilities of the Patient Service.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Rooms patients and prepares the patient for the provider visit.
  • Takes vital signs as necessary. Responsible for accurate blood pressures, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rates and entering accurately into EMR.
  • Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc. into EMR for physical.
  • Obtains required consents, completes required forms as needed for specific visit types.
  • Performs office testing as needed. Required to perform controls on certain in-office tests.
  • Performs EKGs as ordered.
  • Chaperones Providers as required.
  • Administers vaccines and medications as ordered by provider following BMC policies.
  • Stocks rooms and monitors expiration of supplies in exam rooms.
  • Assists with incoming calls as needed by answering, triaging, and routing telephone calls appropriately as needed.
  • Registers patients in EMR and verifies information including demographics and obtains accurate health insurance information. Conduct eligibility checks to ensure insurance is reflected accurately.
  • Schedules patients' appointments and appropriate testing for patients as directed.
  • Follows scheduling rules and direct schedules patient visits in other practices.
  • Performs pre-visit planning daily for all upcoming scheduled appointments.
  • Performs outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality and schedules specialty appointments and testing as required.
  • Responsible for informing manager of all clinical or administrative supply needs or assisting with ordering.
  • Responsible for obtaining prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need.
  • Performs phlebotomy, including venipuncture and collection of blood specimens for laboratory processing in the outpatient clinic, while adhering to proper patient identification and safety protocols.
  • Conducts point-of-care testing as required and processes laboratory specimens in accordance with guidelines
  • Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes clinical instruments and equipment per infection control standards and maintains documentation for sterilization logs.
  • Ability to perform safe and accurate venipuncture, specimen handling, and point-of-care testing in accordance with clinical policies and infection control standards

JOB REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. No prior experience required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Education from approved medical assistant program.
  • One to three years of medical assistant experience
  • Phlebotomy experience
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • N/A
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED:
  • Certified Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Phlebotomy certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
Compensation Range:

$17.79- $25.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
