Certified Medical Assistant, Fort Sanders Women's Specialists

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Perinatal Center Overview:

At Fort Sanders Perinatal Center, we’re here for women with pregnancies that require extra care, and we’re ready to help you make the best healthcare decisions from conception through delivery. For more than 25 years, we’ve provided comprehensive high-risk pregnancy services and delivered over 26,000 high-risk babies at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We offer a range of care services for higher-risk pregnancies, including mothers over age 35, multiples, complications, birth defects, issues such as diabetes or hypertension, or pregnancies after infertility.

Department Description:

Our OB/GYN team of board-certified physicians and advanced practitioners are extensively trained in women’s health and provide comprehensive gynecology and obstetric services. For women facing a high-risk pregnancy, we partner with the perinatologists at Fort Sanders Perinatal Center. You can expect us to partner with you and provide education, guidance, and compassionate care. With more than a century of combined medical experience, our expert healthcare team is ready to provide you with excellent care.

Our main office is located at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. We also have offices in South Knoxville, West Knoxville, Harriman, Maryville, and Tazewell to ensure you get the right care in the right place. We are proud to be a member of Covenant Health.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  2. Performs basic nursing procedures such as weighing patients, taking vital signs, and listening to fetal heart tones. Performs venipunctures, blood sugars, and other lab procedures as indicated.
  3. Retrieves initial basic evaluation of patient and reports to appropriate practitioner.
  4. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visits; demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy.
  5. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, various OB/GYN procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  6. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment.
  7. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient's medical records. Maintains all required reports, statistics, etc. Assists with filling out lab requests and filing lab results in patient's chart.
  8. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when appropriate.
  9. Assists with cleaning instruments and cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms on a daily basis. Transports instruments to sterile processing as needed.
  10. Obtains informed consent after procedure has been explained to patient.
  11. Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific needs of the population served.
  12. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  13. Attends meetings as required.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience: One (1) year related experience required, or new graduate with less than (1) year experience.

Licensure Requirement: Certified Medical Assistant required. CPR required.
