Med Assistant I - FT - Day - Capital Surgical Group
Position Overview:
- Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists LIP as requested. Directs patients to examination rooms; assists in preparing patients for examination; assists patients in undressing, dressing and getting on and off of the examination table. Notifies provider of patient's arrival and readiness for their examination. Assists providers with patient examinations.
- Reviews charts prior to patients' scheduled appointment to ensure all requested lab work and diagnostic procedures have been completed and reports are accessible. Records medical history, current medications, treatments, and problem list accurately. Obtains and records patient vital signs, temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, and reason for visit.
- Assists with patient equipment downloads, utilizing medical device software and printing reports for LIP review.
- Assists with medication reconciliation, reviewing and documenting patient medications accurately.
- Performs clerical duties including patient registration, billing, answering phones, scheduling, and managing medical records.
- Assists with equipment cleaning, disinfection, and documentation per protocols.
- Communicates accurate patient information relevant to the patient's condition.
- Inputs data into registration, electronic medical records, databases, and scheduling systems.
- Helps patients complete paperwork and questionnaires.
- Ensures exam rooms are cleaned, stocked, and maintained following infection control standards.
- Cross-trains to perform Patient Reception duties as needed.
- Performs other clinical and clerical duties to support primary healthcare delivery, as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Two years in a medical assistant, EMT, or related patient care role; nursing students with two clinical semesters considered.
- Credentials: AHA BLS certification; non-licensed must obtain before end of orientation.
- Skills: Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal skills, knowledge of clinical procedures, and record documentation.
- Training: Knowledge of vital signs, medical terminology, basic computer skills, and medical record management.
- Work Hours: 8-hour shifts.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequent: standing, carrying objects, fine motor activities.
- Occasional: sitting, walking, climbing, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling/crawling, keyboard use, taste, and smell.
- Continuous: talking, hearing.
- Lifting: 40 lbs floor to waist, 40 lbs waist level and above.
- Sensory Requirements: visual acuity, color discrimination, depth perception, hearing.
- Occupational Risks: chemical exposure, airborne diseases, dust/particulate matter.
