Medical Assistant | Licensed Practical Nurse, Kingston Family Practice

Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Specialties include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious disease, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, occupational medicine, orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, primary care, pulmonology, reproductive medicine, rheumatology, sleep medicine, and urology.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment program, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  2. Performs basic nursing procedures such as measuring patient height and weight according to oncology best practice, taking vital signs, and completing ambulatory intake. Performs venipunctures and injections, as indicated and allowed by scope of practice.
  3. Interviews and retrieves initial basic evaluation of patient, inputs information into EMR, and reports to appropriate practitioner.
  4. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visit; demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy by using the AIDET fundamentals of communication.
  5. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  6. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment.
  7. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient's medical records. Maintains all required reports, statistics, etc. Assists with medical record requests and scanning of documentation into medical record.
  8. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when appropriate.
  9. Assists with cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms on a daily basis. Transports instruments to sterile processing as needed.
  10. Assists with chart prep and provider schedule management.
  11. Supports provider through assistance with note prep, verbal order entry (per scope of practice and leadership guidelines), order proposal, and prescription refill management.
  12. Competent at reception role – includes professional scripting when answering calls, appropriate documentation of message in message pools, and real-time scheduling/rescheduling of appointments.
  13. Demonstrates competence in performing age-specific care skills.
  14. Participates in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops for professional growth.
  15. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives, maintains good relations, and follows infection control policies.
  16. Attends meetings as required.
  17. Works positively, supports a team environment, and exhibits initiative to improve patient care and department success.
  18. Follows policies, procedures, safety standards, and completes required education annually. Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Licensure Requirement: Certified Medical Assistant required.
