Mechatronics Engineer, Exterior Lighting Systems

As a Mechatronics Engineer, Exterior Lighting Systems you will be responsible for engineering, design, development, timing, prototype, release and launch for lighting components and systems through their life cycle. The candidate should be an excellent engineer and organizer with the ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates a can-do attitude, vigor, and determination, and can work with cross-functional teams to align with other departments and ensure successful product integration.

Responsibilities

  • Create engineering studies of concept, package, and layout within the vehicle in early development stages and for internal in-house projects.
  • Design components and products according to system targets for craftsmanship, function, cost, efficiency, weight.
  • Manage parts from initial design to prototype phase, and serial production.
  • Create and be responsible for engineering documentation such as TESs (Tech. Specs), DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVPs (Design Verification Plan).
  • Coordinate testing and validation activities with tier 1 and vehicle validation teams.
  • Manage EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials).
  • Manage and track suppliers\' activities to successfully complete product development, validation through to series production.
  • Design CAD models to comply with internal deliverables and support tier-1 suppliers when required; collaborate with suppliers during DFM, Moldflow, and tooling design approvals.
  • Verify and approve final component and product design prior to release.
  • Communicate with internal interfaces and departments including data transfer.
  • Respect project time schedules and coordinate activities to guarantee milestones are achieved.
  • Support vehicle prototype build activities and coordinate product optimization based on testing feedback.
  • Develop Engineering Statements of Work for lighting devices.
  • Participate in iterative design/studio processes to balance function, form, and cost.
  • Develop assembly strategy including guiding, locating, and mounting to vehicle to meet build objectives.
  • Interpret CAE simulations from internal attributes and tier 1 sources to integrate product optimizations.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of engineering experience in the automotive sector.
  • Proven experience in design/development engineering for lighting devices with a high efficiency approach.
  • Knowledge of plastics, composites, and basic sheet metal; knowledge of injection molding and plastic bonding processes.
  • Experienced with CATIA V5 and V6 (NX, Unigraphics acceptable).
  • Experience with DVP&R, DFMEA and other technical documents.
  • Knowledgeable in GD&T fundamentals.
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers and assembly plants during launch.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Technology knowledge for tooling, electronics production and testing is a plus.
  • Autonomous in CAD development, Part Design and Generative Shape design.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and the design process from concept to tooling release and production launch.
  • Ability to manage difficult projects with tight timing and budget constraints.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous in-plant launch experience with lighting devices.
  • Previous automotive OEM or Tier 1 experience is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).

Salary Range

  • $85,000 - 100,000 per year
  • The actual salary offered is dependent on factors including location, and the candidate’s job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
