Job description

Savannah, United States | Posted on 09/14/2026

EV.Careers is currently seeking a direct hire Mechatronics Engineer for one of our partners, an OEM that builds heavy industrial vehicles across diesel, gas, and battery electric platforms. In this position, you will develop and validate the control systems that make all three powertrains work, from the Simulink model to the flashed ECU to a vehicle running in the field. Small engineering team, on-site in Savannah, GA, and the kind of seat where one engineer touches a whole vehicle instead of one subsystem.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new and improved controls and mechatronic systems across three powertrains on one product family: diesel, gas, and battery electric
  • Build control models and run the simulations that prove them out: software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, rapid prototyping, and desktop
  • Design and calibrate closed-loop control systems, then validate them on the bench and in the vehicle
  • Own the loop from code change to flashed ECU, including building experimental flash files
  • Develop functional diagrams that support controls development and field troubleshooting
  • Work with engine system integration and engine development teams to validate control strategies for vehicle integration
  • Review and approve component, sub-assembly and purchase drawings, and help select design solutions, materials and components
  • Work directly with suppliers and other departments to build and procure components for prototype and production builds
  • Verify that controls and mechatronic systems meet customer, product safety, and legislation requirements
  • Step in when a controls issue surfaces on the production floor
  • Get out to the machines and test systems yourself. This is not a desk-only seat.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of work-related experience
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing environment
  • MATLAB and Simulink with embedded code exposure
  • Design and calibration of closed-loop system controls
  • Vector analysis tools such as CANalyzer
  • C++, Python, or other programming experience
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, domestic and the odd international trip
  • On-site, full-time, and happy to get out of the chair: you will be plugging into machines and testing systems yourself
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in any engineering discipline
  • Construction, agricultural, material handling or other mobile equipment background. This is the experience our client values most
  • Experience with J1939 communications. Not required, and very much a differentiator
  • Battery electric or hybrid powertrain experience
  • Embedded HMI or instrument cluster development
  • Experience creating experimental flash files and owning an embedded flash workflow
  • PLM experience with Creo, Creo Schematic and Windchill
  • Experience participating in Lean and continuous improvement work
  • Health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance for you and your family
  • 401K
  • Vacation and paid holidays
  • $82,000 to $113,000 depending on experience
  • Cost of living well below Peoria, Detroit, Charlotte or any major engineering hub
  • A small engineering team, so the work is broad and visible. You will own a system rather than a slice of one.
  • Active electrification and vehicle autonomy programs to grow into
  • A company in second place in its market and openly going for first, with significant growth planned in product technology
