Job summary

Columbia Machine Inc in Vancouver, WA is seeking a Mechatronics Controls Engineer to design, program, test, and commission automated machinery. The role blends electrical, controls, robotics, software, SCADA, and mechanical knowledge to deliver high‑performance automation solutions.

You will collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers, service, and project teams through the full product lifecycle, travel up to 30% for startup and field support, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years in industrial automation, controls engineering, robotics, or machine design.
Prefer experience with capital equipment manufacturing.
Experience integrating robotics and vision systems.
Familiarity with ANSI, NFPA 79, ISO 13849, UL508A and CE.

Responsibilities

Design, program, test, and commission automated machinery.
Develop PLC/HMI/SCADA and robotics systems; integrate servo networks.
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers, service, and project teams throughout lifecycle.
Travel to customer sites for startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and training (up to 30%).
Create BOMs, IO lists, functional specs, operators’ manuals, and engineering docs.
