HEAVY EQUIPMENT/DIESEL MECHANIC

Are you a skilled Diesel or Heavy Equipment Mechanic looking for a career where your expertise keeps the community running? The Allen County Highway Department is looking for a dedicated mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain a fleet of essential vehicles and heavy equipment. If you take pride in hands-on work, problem-solving, and ensuring vehicles operate at peak performance, we want you on our team!

Location: Highway Department – North and South
Competitive Pay | Steady Hours | Overtime Available
Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Plus OT as needed)

What You’ll Do:

  • Diagnose and repair County vehicles and heavy equipment to keep them safe and efficient.
  • Respond to roadside service calls for breakdowns.
  • Work on electrical, hydraulic, air brake, and mechanical systems.
  • Transport equipment and vehicles to and from job sites.
  • Operate heavy equipment for snow and ice removal.
  • Keep detailed maintenance records for repairs and servicing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  • High School Diploma/GED + specialized training in Diesel/Heavy Equipment repair.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in diesel and/or heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of engine diagnostics, ABS braking systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Welding/soldering experience a plus!
  • Team player with a strong work ethic and attention to safety.
