Mechanical Welding Inspector (Structural) – Night Shift

Job summary

SQA Services seeks an experienced welding inspector for on-site work in the United States. The role conducts VT inspections of structural welds, reviews WPS and welder qualifications, and coordinates with NDE personnel. Expect detailed reports and strict adherence to AWS standards.

This is a 6-month contract with on-site work 5 days a week, 7:30pm–6am. ITAR restrictions apply; candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; welding inspection training preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of structural welding inspection experience preferred.
• Experience inspecting structural steel fabrication and welded assemblies.
• Strong working knowledge of AWS D1.1 requirements and AWS B1.11 visual inspection practices.
• Familiarity with weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and inspection tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspection (VT) of structural welds per AWS D1.1 criteria.
• Evaluate weld workmanship and surface condition.
• Identify weld discontinuities (cracks, undercut, porosity, overlap, incomplete fusion).
• Verify weld profiles, weld size, and contour requirements.
• Inspect fillet, groove, CJP and PJP welds.
• Review and verify WPS documentation and welder qualifications.
• Coordinate with NDE personnel when required.
• Generate inspection reports and nonconformance documentation.
